Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected when someone visits Clay County Criminal History, the reasons it is used, and the limited circumstances in which it may be disclosed. By continuing to browse or use the site, a visitor accepts the data practices stated below.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Clay County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

When a visitor sends an email, the message is retained as needed to answer it. It remains within the site team unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.

Data We Gather Automatically

Loading a page can cause the site's systems to receive routine technical details about the visit:

  • Pages viewed, visit length, and page-view timestamps
  • The referring website, when one is supplied
  • The device's assigned IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system and device category

Cookies and Analytics

The site uses cookies, which are small files saved on a visitor's device. They help show broad use patterns, such as popular pages and points where visits end. Analytics providers combine this traffic information for reporting. Browser controls can block cookies, though doing so may change how some site features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Routing a search query to the appropriate partner service
  • Maintaining site availability and page speed
  • Finding and repairing technical faults
  • Understanding which resources visitors use most
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Clay County Criminal History does not operate, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its reference material explains how to approach the Clay County Sheriff, the Circuit Court Clerk, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's TORIS/TN-FlexCheck service, the Tennessee Department of Correction, and the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry. Tennessee Public Records Act access under T.C.A. §§10-7-503 and 10-7-504 concerns records held by government custodians and does not turn this private site into one. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a third-party criminal file, and the site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Independent companies provide the site's search boxes. Information submitted through a box is governed by that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider chooses its own retention and disclosure practices, which Clay County Criminal History cannot control. Visitors should read those terms before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Clay County offices, Tennessee courts and agencies, public registries, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows an outbound link, the destination's privacy policy controls that visit. Review it before providing personal information.

Some advertising companies may use their own systems to follow activity across websites and select targeted ads. That processing occurs under their practices, not this site's.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. It may be disclosed to a limited set of recipients:

  • Analytics providers that measure site traffic and operation
  • Search providers that process a visitor's submitted query
  • Advertising networks that serve ads on the pages
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies when disclosure is compelled by a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard security measures are used to protect collected information. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, so the site cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If information from a minor is identified, a deletion request may be made so it can be removed promptly.

Your Data Rights

Rights can vary with a visitor's location and the law that applies. Tennessee's Public Records Act, T.C.A. §10-7-501 et seq., chiefly §10-7-503, governs access to qualifying state and local government records, while §10-7-504 supplies confidentiality exceptions. Those provisions do not create access to this private site's files. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:

  • Request correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Ask what personal information the site retains about the requester
  • Object to or opt out of certain processing where the law permits
  • Seek deletion of personal data where applicable

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised as site practices or legal requirements change. A revised version will appear here with a new effective date, so visitors should review the page periodically.
